Part of PharmaSUG is giving something back to the community in which our conference is being held. In recent years, we have joined with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in their efforts to cure cancer, the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House in their goal to support families of seriously ill children, Feeding America to help those struggling with food insecurities in the United States.and the Central Texas Food Bank to help in the fight against hunger in the Austin area.

For 2023, we are supporting two organizations with different areas of impact. With our focus on supporting expedited delivery of life-saving treatments, it seemed logical to add a similar organization. The Shriners Childrens Hospital of Northern California is focused on pediatric care for families regardless of their ability to pay. The second organization is the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, which puts healthy food in the hands of families who are struggling. You can read more about both organizations below.

Shriners Children's Hospital of Northern California

Shriners Children's Hospitals improve the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, conducting innovative research, and offering outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to the age of 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate are eligible for care, regardless of a family's financial situation. To learn more about the impact the Shriners have had on the lives of children, see the attached videos.

Shriners Children's Hospital of Northern California also supports research on how treatment affects lives over time, which helps their patients grow to lead healthier lives. This outcomes research can be seen in this video.

Your gift to Shriners Children's Hospital of Northern California improves the lives of young patients just as we support the development of treatments which improve patient lives.

San Francisco-Marin Food Bank

The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank's mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin, where even before the pandemic, one in five neighbors was at risk of hunger. We envision a community where everyone has access to nutritious food of their choosing and is uplifted by a network of support. Together with community partners, we work to address hunger head-on through neighborhood food pantries, CalFresh enrollment, home-delivered groceries, and policy and advocacy efforts. We work with our community to create lasting solutions to address both the hunger we see today and the root causes that perpetuate food insecurity in our society. Every week, 53,000 households count on us for food assistance. 60% of what we distribute is fresh fruits and vegetables. Watch a video, and visit our website to learn more!
