P09 In this paper we present an application used to track serology samples for clinical trials. The system used SAS to interact with a Clinical data management system (Clintrial) and an Oracle database through the use of Base SAS, SAS Macro, SAS/AF, Open Dat a Base Connectivity (ODBC) and SAS Output Delivery System (ODS). Serology data is collected to demonstrate the efficacy of new vaccines. Serology samples are collected, from subjects at different time points, in different vials during the conduct of the clinical trial. Historically the serology inventory system was implemented using Microsoft Access. This required double entry of the serology data in the clinical database and the Microsoft Access database. This required constant checking of the two datab ases to insure that they are identical. Furthermore, the Access database lacked an audit trail to keep track of changes to the database tables and, the users who needed information from the access data were completely dependent on the programmers to write the necessary queries. By using SAS to interact with the clinical database management system and oracle database we were able to implement a system that solved all of the mentioned issues and improved the efficiency of our process. |
